MEMBERSHIPS

Being a volunteer requires a special type of person.

Our volunteers are dedicated to the cause of helping the community. Each member has their own strengths whether it is directly involved with firefighting or skills on the administrative and fundraising side.

REGULAR MEMBER

Must be 18 years old or older.
No prior experience required.
Do what you feel comfortable with! Not everyone may be interested in going into a house that is on fire, extricating injured people from vehicle crashes, or responding to medical calls. THAT IS OK! There is a role for everyone to fill.
Training is provided in-house as well as at the local Public Safety Training Center that is less than 2 miles away from the station!

ASSOCIATE MEMBER

Must be 18 year old or older.
Primary functions are fundraising, public relations/events, and administrative work.
Does not respond to emergency incidents.

JUNIOR FIREFIGHTER

The Junior Firefighter Program is designed for anyone ages 14-17.
It is a great way to gain life experience while working within a structured organization.
Many successful individuals have gotten their start here in Smithton as a junior firefighter.
Training is provided!
Junior firefighters are not permitted to participate in live firefighting activities at emergency incidents. They are also not permitted to respond to incidents on Interstate 70.
Junior firefighters *are permitted* to go through extensive training to prepare themselves for once they are 18 years old and become a Regular Member.

Additional Officer Positions:

Chief Engineer - Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all apparatus and equipment.

Engineer - Primary duty is to drive the fire apparatus to the scene and support the firefighters.
