The Smithton Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1913. We are PROUD to be a community-oriented fire department. Our strength comes through the community that supports us. We are 100% staffed by volunteers from many different backgrounds.
The Smithton VFD is recognized as a 501.C.3 Charitable Organization. Our operations are funded entirely by fundraising efforts by our members, grants, and donations. This means there is no "tax" for our services! These efforts to obtain funding from different sources continue to become more difficult each year.

Our department is the primary fire and rescue provider to Smithton Borough which sits along side the Youghiogheny River in Westmoreland County about 25 miles south of Pittsburgh. While Smithton is a small town of less than 400 residents, we respond into neighboring municipalities automatically to assist their home companies. These areas include South Huntingdon Township, Rostraver Township, East Huntingdon Township, Perry Township, and Perryopolis Borough. We have also be called further into North Belle Vernon Borough, Scottdale Borough, and West Newton Borough.
We are an all-hazards fire department. The type of incidents we respond to range from fires, vehicle crashes, hazardous materials, medical calls, and public service calls. Annually our members respond to an average of 300 incidents per year.
No experience necessary! We have various types of memberships and roles.
