Volunteer Opportunities
Smithton Volunteer Fire Department welcomes new members from Smithton and the surrounding Westmoreland County communities. Whether you want to fight fires, provide medical care, or support the department behind the scenes, there is a place for you.
Firefighter
Respond to structure fires, vehicle accidents, and rescue calls alongside the crew. No prior experience needed — the department provides firefighting essentials training at no cost to you.
EMT / Medical
Provide emergency medical care on scene and assist on medical calls. Current EMTs and those interested in pursuing EMS certification are welcome.
Junior Firefighter (16–18)
Smithton area teens can begin training and ride along with the department while finishing school, building skills and experience early.
Support Staff & Auxiliary
Help with fundraisers, hall rentals, equipment, and department events. No fireground training required — every role keeps the department running.
Training and How to Join
Joining the Smithton Volunteer Fire Department takes four steps. Training is provided by the department at no cost to new members.

Complete Your Training
New members receive free, department-provided training in firefighting essentials, CPR, and safety fundamentals.
