A 40+ year tradition of the Smithton Volunteer Fire Department escorting SANTA throughout the Smithton area brought more smiles and excitement to Smithton area residents in 2009!
Members of the Station 17 began packing treats around noon, but was interrupted by an alarm. Stations 105(Rostraver Central), 17(Smithton), 31(Webster) and 103(Collinsburg) were activated for an automatic fire alarm at 618 Finley Road, Rostraver Twp. Engine 105 arrived to find that burnt food set off the alarm. Finley Rd. Command ordered all units to cancel with the exception of 105 and Squrt 17. The crews from Squrt 17 assisted with ventilation and returned 20 mins later.
Once members finished packing the treats members prepared Attack 17 and Utility 17 for SANTA'S big night!
Begining in the Borough of Smithon and making his way through the Smithton Area, SANTA needed to refuel before ending his annual trip. While getting a cool drink, SANTA greeted traveling truck drivers and dining families at the Smithton Truck Stop Flying J.
The Smithton Volunteer Fire Department would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
