As storms rolled through the Smithton Area around 21:00, roadways began to flood as calls came in to the 9-1-1 center. Station 17(Smithton) was originally activated for a flooded roadway near the former Jones Brewing plant. As crews arrived to shut down the road, residents in the area were reporting water in their basements. Staging was set up at the Jones Brewing parking lot as command was set up at Station 17. With the number of calls continuing to rise, Stations 80(North Belle Vernon), 82(West Newton) and 103(Collinsburg) were requested to assist.
Crews worked over 20 incidents in the borough, mainly flooded residence along First Street and Second Street and one medical assist on First Street.
With Smithton’s crews and equipment spread throughout the Borough, Station 81(Monessen – Hilltop) held a standby position at Station 17 unit 02:00 when all crews were released.
DAY #2
Crews were again dispatched a few hours later for additional flooded basements along First Street.
