Wed. Jul 23rd 2008 So, the 1959 ALF finally gets retired. My fire service career, now spanning 50 years, began with the SVFD. I was one of the initial drivers on the '59ALF. In those days our primary fund raiser was the annual week long street fair. In '59 I served as parade chair. To get others to come to your parade you had to go to theirs. That summer I probably went to 2-3 parades a week with the ALF. It resulted in one of our largest parades that incuded 3 or 4 drum and bugle corps. When we bought the '59ALF it was gas powered with a manual trans and a high pressure as well as volume pump (high pressure fire pumps were the rage then). Congratulations on the upgrade. Roger A. McGary, chief Silver Spring, MD FD - Roger A. McGary
